F2. Salt Reduction (pledge now closed)

Committed since:

1 January, 2013

Delivery plan:

Submitted: 19 December, 2011

We have undertaken considerable activity to meet the targets specified within the salt reduction pledge. In some categories there remain technical challenges that need to be overcome including food preservation and safety; consumer acceptance; processing feasibility and ensuring overall product quality. However, the majority of our products have either been reformulated to meet the 2012 targets, or there are plans in place to meet the targets by the end of 2012.Specifically;Bread: All of our Allinson and Burgen brand sliced breads meet the 2012 target. Some of our key Kingsmill brand sliced breads already meet the target and for those that do not, there are clear plans to implement the required changes in 2012, subject to technical feasibility.Breakfast cereals: All added salt has been removed from our Jordans brand breakfast cereal products.Cooking Sauces: The majority (c.90%) of our cooking sauces currently meet the 2012 targets. Plans are currently in development to review all remaining cooking sauce products with a view to bringing them into line with the 2012 targets where acceptable technical solutions can be found.Extruded snacks: All products have been reformulated to meet 2012 targets and the last of these reformulated recipes were launched in October 2011.Crispbread: Those crispbread products that did not already meet the 2012 targets have been reformulated and were launched in November 2011.
