H1. Chronic Conditions Guide and Carers

Addaction takes its responsibility to support staff with chronic conditions. Whilst we provide 6 weeks full sick pay after which SSP kicks in, we have extended in all situations whilst a more detailed independent occupational health report has been compiled that will outline the actions that are needed to support staff back to work. Our intention is not to keep people off work for lengthy periods of time but to support them back to work with a range of packages that addresses their individual conditions.
We do this in consultation with the individual, the Occupational Health providers, their GP and/or their consultant and where appropriate their union or work place representative.
Our human resources policies and procedures, including attendance management, are available on our Intranet site.
We already have a comprehensive approach to occupational health within the organisation. We have had an external occupational health provider in place since 2005 who provide pre-employment medical assessments, where required and ad-hoc health assessments, at manager or employee request, so we can ensure any reasonable adjustments are put in place. Additionally, we have access to a Chief Medical Officer from our occupational health service who is able to provide advice, support and guidance. This approach helps ensure that chronic conditions are best managed in the workplace.
