Aunt Bessies recognises the need to reduce the salt intake of the general population in line with achieving the public health goal of consuming 6g of salt per person per day.As part of our commitment to this goal salt reduction within our product range has been an important initiative, and as such we have taken an ongoing approach to salt reduction across our recipes over several years.Aunt Bessies has undertaken a significant research and development programme in recipe development, process development and consumer acceptance research across our product portfolio. This programme has not only looked at taste acceptance with consumers but also the technical challenges which exist due to the function which salt performs within a product recipe. This ongoing programme has reduced salt levels in a wide number of products to achieve the FSA salt targets for 2010 in the past, these products are now on the market. In addition we have already successfully achieved the FSA 2012 salt targets for a number of our products, particularly in the vegetables, desserts and toad in the hole categories, many of these products are now available on the market and a roll out plan will continue during 2012.During 2012 we will continue to work on technical solutions to achieve the 2012 salt targets for our other product categories whilst importantly maintaining consumer taste acceptability. All of our products are required to pass rigorous consumer acceptance testing prior to launch onto the market.
