H4. Healthier Staff Restaurants

Please decribe how you and your caterers have encouraged healthier restaurants/vending outlet/buffets (as applicable) for your staff over the last year. There is a 2000-character limit when completing this section.
Bowmer & Kirkland has a canteen on site at Head Office where over 400 persons are based.
The operator TSL Catering provides a range of freshly prepared meals and snacks using produce from local suppliers - including breakfasts, lunches and on-site buffets.
With our support Heart of Derbyshire ‘making the healthier choice the easier choice – Gold accreditation has been achieved - Membership number 106016. This scheme is promoted by Derbyshire County Council / Amber Valley District Council.
TSL does not offer deep-fried food and has pledged to:
- Take action on Fat
- Take action on Salt
- Make fruit/vegetables/wholegrain available
- Take action on Sugar
- Provide allergen free food
- Provide smaller portions
- Welcome breastfeeding
Additionally we have targeted our monthly health and wellbeing campaigns to include hydration (August), heart health including diet (February) and the importance of eating a healthy breakfast (April) which included a ‘building on a healthy breakfast campaign’.
One Group company provided soup to their outdoor workers at afternoon break, during winter, to promote the importance of maintaining energy through the day.
We will encourage any construction site canteen operators appointed to achieve similar accreditations.
