BaxterStorey, the UKs leading independent contract caterer, has signed the Salt Catering Pledge: Procurement to support and enable consumers to reduce their dietary salt intake. BaxterStorey is dedicated to providing its clients and customers with wholesome, nutritious food. Every day, across more than 640 locations in the UK, BaxterStoreys chefs prepare fantastic meals using fresh, locally-sourced, seasonal ingredients. Our procurement ethos is to focus on buying fresh seasonal food with little or no interference from farm to fork and we therefore avoid processed packaged meals with all their attendant health risks. However, there are certain raw ingredients such as cooked meats, tinned tuna and tomatoes where salt is part of the production methods for that particular commodity. We are constantly reviewing our core ingredients and will look to work with our suppliers to reduce the salt levels in the products they supply and develop a plan for on-going reduction of the salts within their commodities. We will continue to ensure that our chefs, through our wide training programmes, learn the importance of reducing salt intake for their customers through balancing across their daily menus the use of those ingredients where salt is incorporated in its state of supply.
