Please list the actions that your company has undertaken in the last reporting year (e.g. product reformulation, serving size control, new product development, supportive promotional or marketing activity) and where possible provide data to indicate the scale of the activity.
The update provides you with an opportunity to describe the progress you have made on delivering against this pledge and the changes you have implemented in order to deliver this commitment. You may wish to indicate if your delivery plans for this pledge had to be modified and whether there were any unintended consequences that arose from your delivery of the pledge.
If you have more detailed information that you would like to share with the Department of Health but making it public might be detrimental to your business, this information can be provided on a confidential basis by sending it directly to RDalcoholnetwork@dh.gsi.gov.uk. Make clear on the email that the information is confidential, including a brief explanation of why this is necessary. This information will then be used for internal monitoring and evaluation only and details will not be published without the company's permission.

We have made great progress on this commitment through our work on lighter alcohol wine and the reduction of the average alcohol content (abv) of our own brand wine, beer and cider, as set out in our 20x20 corporate responsibility and sustainability strategy. Sales volumes of lighter alcohol wine (defined internally as wines under 10.5 per cent ABV) have grown by 32 per cent since 2010 and we continue to introduce new products lower in alcohol content, at the same time as reformulating some of our existing lines to reduce their alcohol content.
In October 2014 we reduced the alcohol content of our Taste the Difference Conegliano Prosecco from 11 per cent ABV to 10.5 per cent ABV without compromising on quality or enjoyment. Taste the Difference Prosecco is one of our best-selling lines and it was therefore particularly important that we made this change carefully, and that we were completely confident with the final product. We estimate that this change will have removed well over one million units of alcohol from customers’ annual alcohol consumption.
Over the course of this year, we have also introduced five products to our own brand alcohol range that are lighter in alcohol. These are: Winemakers’ Selection by Sainsbury’s Riesling, Winemakers’ Selection by Sainsbury’s Pink Grapefruit Fizz, Winemakers’ Selection by Sainsbury’s Elderflower, Mint and Lime Fizz, Winemakers’ Selection by Sainsbury’s Pinot Grigio Spritzer, and Winemakers’ Selection by Sainsbury’s Zinfandel Spritzer.
Spritzers have been a particularly strong area of growth this year, with customers telling us they like the lower alcohol content, and the convenient way we are helping them moderate their alcohol intake.
