PI – 1. Tesco

We are proud of our support for the annual Race for Life in partnership with Cancer Research UK. Last year, 700,000 women took part. We will therefore work with CRUK to encourage a big increase in the number of women running; our target is one million women to run, jog or walk 5k in support of CRUK.

Pledge update, Spring 2012

Working with Cancer Research UK, we conducted our biggest ever marketing campaign to encourage women to walk, jog or run 5k in a Race for Life last year. Race for Life is the biggest women-only fundraising event in the UK and we are proud to have supported over 280 Race for Life events across the country which raised £55 million for Cancer Research UK in 2011. We are delighted that over 648,000 women of all ages, including over 20,000 Tesco staff, participated.
Tesco has committed to sponsoring Race for Life for the next three years and we have set ourselves a target of 625,000 women participating in 2012. Innovations to encourage participation this year include a ‘Race in your Place’ offer so that our Distribution Centre staff can set up their own Race for Life event at a time and place to suit them, and Cancer Research UK are offering reduced entry for under-16s.

Over 2.8 million people got active with Tesco through our physical activity programmes in 2011, including Race for Life, FA Tesco Skills and the Great School Run.

This pledge is now completed.
