Maintenance Scheme

Part of our ongoing programme of work to maintain England's strategic road network

Cost:  The combined works cost approximately £6.1m.

Managed by:   Area 3

Where was the project located?

The works were carried out to the following structures carrying the M3 over the M3 junction 6 junction: Basingstoke Interchange, Hackwood Road and Tower Hill Bridges.

Why was the scheme needed?

These works were carried out for safety reasons as a number of surfacing defects had been identified and there was a need for permanent repairs to be undertaken as soon as possible.

What work was carried out?

The works included carriageway resurfacing, vegetation clearance and upgrading of vehicle restraint systems prior to installing traffic management layouts, replacement of failed bridge decks waterproofing membrane and replacement of bridge deck expansion.

How did this benefit road users?

By extending the working lives of these bridge this will improve safety and reduce the need for future disruptive maintenance.
