Improvement Scheme

Part of our programme of improvements (generally with value <£10m)

Cost:  £6M

Managed by:   Area 10

Where was the project located?

Works took place on the A55/A483 junction between Chester and Wrexham.

Why was the scheme needed?

The scheme was needed to address problems with congestion at the junction of the A55 and A483, that resulted in significant queues and delays at peak times. The scheme will also address some of the safety issues and accidents associated with the congestion and existing configuration.

What work was carried out?

The works provide additional lane capacity, but will also ensure the existing carriageway is better utilised, which will improve traffic flows and reduce delays. The scheme also offers significant safety benefits. A new footbridge for shared use by cyclists and pedestrians has been constructed adjacent to the west bridge.

How did this benefit road users?

The scheme will reduce daily congestion, reduce journey times for the travelling public, boost the economy and improve safety.
