Where was the project located?

The works were at the junction of the M57 and M62 junction 6, north of Widnes.

Why was the scheme needed?

The scheme was needed as the junction suffers from heavy congestion, in particular traffic backing up from the exit slip roads on to the main carriageway during peak periods.
