Where was the project located?

The works were south east of Blackburn and will affect the M65 junction 5 slip roads, as well as the A6077 link road and B6232.

Why was the scheme needed?

The scheme was needed as heavy congestion had been identified on the junction exit slip roads and the roundabout.  This impacts the surrounding networks resulting in queuing on local roads.  Safety issues have been recognised on the roundabout but also on the interface with local roads.

What work was carried out?

Works included:

Installation of the new street lighting and traffic signal columns.

Construction of the road and traffic light crossings.

Underground cable installation.

Resurfacing the road, painting final road markings and the laying of the anti-skid surfaces.

How did this benefit road users?

As part of the Pinch Point Programme, this scheme aims to:

Help to reduce daily congestion.

Reduce journey times for the travelling public.

Boost the economy.

Improve safety.
