Dementia Friends is a programme to help people understand a bit more about dementia and the small things they can do to help people with the condition. There are now more than a million Dementia Friends. To become a friend you just need to watch a short video or join an information session in your area – visit the Dementia Friends site to find out more.
The Dementia Friends campaign is run by Public Health England and Alzheimer’s Society. The Dementia Friends TV ad, which aired for the first time in May 2014, features celebrities singing the Beatles track ‘I get by with a little help from my friends’ alongside Gina Shaw, a former nurse who has dementia. The celebrities include the late Sir Terry Pratchett, Ray Winstone, Ruth Jones, Michael Vaughan, Ruth Langsford and Eamonn Holmes, Leighton Baines, Meera Syal, Simon Pegg, Paul O’Grady, Fiona Phillips, Amanda Holden and Alesha Dixon.
