John Pullinger

John is the UK's National Statistician, Head of the Government Statistical Service (GSS) and Chief Executive of the UK Statistics Authority. The latter role includes executive responsibility for the Office for National Statistics (ONS) and strategic oversight of its work.

Glen Watson - Deputy National Statistician and Director General for Population and Public Policy

Glen Watson, Director General

Glen is the Director General for Population and Public Policy in ONS and, as one of three Deputy National Statisticians, provides leadership across the GSS and internationally. He leads ONS's data collection, the Census and social analysis and co-ordinates GSS work supporting public policy, for example, statistical and analytical support to the Government's new Implementation Taskforces.

Heather Savory - Deputy National Statistician and Director General for Data Capability

Heather is the Director General for Data Capability and as such, is responsible for the capability of ONS, ensuring that everybody associated with the organisation has the technology and skills to enable them to do their job effectively in a modern world. Heather also champions openness across the data community, engendering trust in the analysis produced by the ONS.

Jonathan Athow - Deputy National Statistician and Director General for Economic Statistics

Jonathan Athow - Deputy National Statistician and Director General for Economic Statistics

Jonathan is the ONS Director General with responsibility for the Economic Statistics which are so vital to decision making in the UK. Jonathan works alongside the National Statistician and other Deputy National Statisticians, to collectively deliver the 'Better Statistics, Better Decisions' strategy.

Paul Layland - Director, Finance

Paul Layland - Director, Finance

Paul is ONS's Chief Finance Officer and directly supports the National Statistician in his role as Accounting Officer. Paul leads the promotion and delivery by the whole organisation of good financial management so that public money is safeguarded at all times and used appropriately, efficiently and effectively.

Guy Goodwin - Director, Social and Analysis

Guy Goodwin, Director

Guy oversees the analytical work programme and social statistics at ONS. His remit includes population, life events and migration, crime, wellbeing, health, tourism, pensions, regions and local statistics, labour market analysis, environment and sustainable development, public sector productivity, inequalities and the office's compendia publications. Guy looks to maximise the public policy impact of the office's statistics and analysis and has a front-facing role with our users.

Nick Vaughan - Director, National Accounts and Economic Statistics

Nick Vaughan

Nick is responsible for ensuring that ONS is seen as a trusted and authoritative publisher of statistics about the UK economy. He provides leadership in business process improvement, quality management, and the delivery of regular statistical outputs. Nick's responsibilities include, business and economic surveys, the National Accounts, price statistics, and labour market statistics.

Ian Cope - Director, Census

Ian Cope, Director

Ian is the ONS Director with responsibility for designing and delivering the decennial Census in England and Wales, which will next take place in 2021.

Joe Grice - Chief Economic Adviser

Joe Grice, Director

As ONS's Chief Economist, Joe acts as the public face of economic analysis. Working closely with the other directors, Joe provides economic interpretation and analysis, advising the office on the coherence of its economic statistics. Joe maintains important relationships with HM Treasury, the Bank of England and the Office for Budget Responsibility.

David Best - Director, Digital Services, Technology and Methodology

David Best - Director, Digital Services, Technology and Methodology

David is at the forefront of the work to update ONS's delivery capability and provide a secure, digitally empowered on-line business for ONS data. Ensuring that ONS statistics exploit and make best use of technology, David leads the way to re-engineer business processes and systems to capture, process and publish data in a more efficient way.

Neil Wooding - Director, Business Services and Development

Neil Wooding, Director

As Director of Business Services and Development, Neil is responsible for business planning, the ONS Investment Portfolio, human resources, property, programme, portfolio and project management expertise and leadership, procurement and commercial activity as well as security.

Pete Benton - Director, Data Collection

Pete Benton - Director, Data Collection

Pete leads social surveys, business surveys and administrative data collection for ONS. Key challenges for Pete's Directorate include moving survey data collection online; increasing our use of administrative data; and modernising and rationalising ONS's data processing systems.
