A production error was discovered in Producer Price Index, October 2013, originally published on 12th November 2013.

This error affected the input index for fuels (series 6207000060 [K647]). Index values and percentage change figures published in the statistical bulletin and associated reference tables were affected as well as figures showing the contribution of this index on the top level input index. All other indices in the release were unaffected.

This error was corrected on Wednesday 4th December at 3:30pm.

Key points

The key points from this release are:
  • In the year to October the output price index for goods produced by UK manufacturers (factory gate prices) rose 0.8%, compared with a rise of 1.2% in the year to September.
  • Between September and October factory gate prices fell 0.3%, compared with no change between August and September.
  • In the year to October core factory gate prices, excluding the more volatile food, beverages, tobacco and petroleum products, rose 0.9%, compared with a rise of 0.8% in the year to September.
  • In the year to October the overall price of materials and fuels bought by UK manufacturers for processing, known as total input prices, fell 0.3%, compared with a rise of 0.9% in the year to September.
  • Between September and October total input prices fell 0.6%, compared with a fall of 1.0% between August and September.

The Producer Price Index has been rebased from 2005=100 to 2010=100. This is the first month that the PPI has been released on this basis. The Summary and Statistical Bulletin available here, reflect this change.
