H9. Domestic Violence

Please describe measures you have taken to ensure that an appropriate, safe and sensitive response can be implemented to support your staff in response to experience of stalking, violence or abuse in their lives, which has an effect on people in the workplace.
In March 2014, UK EAPA's newsletter, which is circulated to all members and is available to all on the website, www.eapa.org.uk, contained an article entitled 'How EAPs can take
action against domestic violence', this highlighted the fact that EAPs have a multi-functional role
to play in managing the impact of domestic violence in the workplace. It explained how EAPS can act as both an information resource and reference point to help raise awareness of the issue among those who may be victims, as well as supporting the managers and colleagues of those who may be affected by this abuse.
UK EAPA is also in the final stages of developing a Domestic Violence Factsheet which considers the role of EAPs in supporting both employers and victims of domestic abuse, as well as discussing factors employers might consider when creating a domestic violence policy and reviewing how EAPs can specifically help to support and address the issue. This publication will be available to download from the UK EAPA website from July 2014.
