Secretary of State for Health, Jeremy Hunt, has challenged the NHS to become paperless by 2018, making it the most modern digital health service in the world.
Local solutions will be joined up to drive integration within, and between, organisations, to ensure care is focused around the person and their needs.
Widespread use of modern technology, where using a computer or smart phone to order a repeat prescription, will become the norm.
Electronic health records will become the source for people’s core information, improving care and services, informing research, and reducing the need for repetitive, burdensome, collecting of personal data.
This system will be supported by a framework of national standards to ensure data can move freely, safely, and securely throughout the health and care sector.
