Inquiry appoints new independent expert assessors to review final recommendations

Robert Francis QC today announced the appointment of four independent experts, who, in addition to the existing assessors, will offer him assistance in reviewing his proposed final recommendations ahead of the Inquiry submitting its report to the Secretary of State in January 2013. 

The experts, to be appointed as assessors to the Inquiry, are:

  • Dr Judith Smith - Head of Policy at the Nuffield Trust and an expert in health service management;
  • Professor Peter Homa CBE - Chief Executive of Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trusts, who has extensive experience in leadership roles in the NHS;
  • Sir Cyril Chantler - Chairman of University College London Partners, an academic health science partnership, and former Dean of the Guy’s, King’s College and St Thomas’ Hospitals’ Medical and Dental School
  • Nigel Edwards - a senior fellow at the King’s Fund, with wide ranging experience of health policy issues.
