Productive Care QIPP workstream

The Productive Care national QIPP workstream is led by the NHS Institute and made up of the programmes in The Productive Series.

The overall objective of the workstream is to ensure that patients are cared for in the most appropriate ‘productive’ environment – whether that is on a ward, in a theatre or in their own homes. This is an environment where quality is maximised, where processes are efficient and variation is minimal, and where patients feel safe and well cared for.

The workstream aims to have all wards/operating theatres and community trusts operating ‘productively’ by 2013 – as well as contributing c£1.4bn to the QIPP financial challenge and helping to sustain the NHS by 2014.

Demonstrating compliance against Care Quality Commission Essential Standard Outcomes

The Productive Care Team at Oxford Health NHS Foundation Trust produced reference cards to support their teams to identify how evidence from their Productive Care work can demonstrate compliance against Care Quality Commission Essential Standard Outcomes.  Download Oxford Health NHS Foundation Trust flash cards acute mental health.pdf Oxford Health NHS Foundation Trust's Quick Reference Flash Cards for acute mental health.pdf (79.03 KB) and Oxford Health NHS Foundation Trust flash cards Community Hospital Ward.pdf Oxford Health NHS Foundation Trust's Quick Reference Flash Cards for community hospital wards.pdf (67.11 KB)

LINks and the Productive Care QIPP workstream

LINks groups and the Productive Care national QIPP workstream have been working together to improve the quality of care for patients.  We have jointly developed a new publication for LINks members that provides valuable information about The Productive Ward programme, the benefits that it can bring to patient safety and improved quality of care, and a set of powerful actions that LINks members can take to ensure these benefits are happening in their local trust.

Data collection

Since November 2010 The Productive Care national work stream has been working collaboratively with SHAs and organisational leads across NHS England to support their work towards all patients being cared for in the most productive environment by April 2013. As part of this work we have developed a standardised data collection template for SHAs and organisations. Our aim being to assist organisations in reporting progress back to the Department of Health in relation to the 2013 target. The idea of using a visual template (the module house ) for reporting originated in South Central SHA and with support from our 100% measurement focus groups we have built on this idea.
