Effective Practice with e-Assessment guide

The Pedagogy programme funded 2 projects in e-assessment practice:

  • Roadmap for e-Assessment an overview of the current drivers and barriers to e-assessment in post-16 education, using a broad definition of the term e-assessment to cover summative (or high stakes) assessment, formative (or low stakes) assessment and diagnostic testing/assessment. This project was awarded to The Open University. See the final report and roadmap for e-Assessment. See the project website
  • Case studies of innovative and effective e-assessment practice which was awarded to The Open University and the University of Derby. Read an overview of this project

The JISC Organisational committee funded 1 project:

  • Glossary of assessment terminology for schools, post-16 and higher education sectors, which was awarded to 3 Squared and was jointly funded by the QCA. See further information about this project

The outcomes from all 3 projects form the basis for Effective Practice with e-Assessment, a case-study based overview of e-assessment in the further and higher education sectors. You can download a copy of the publication below or order a printed copy

JISC eLearning team also manages the SFC e-Learning Transformation programme and the REAP project (based at Strathclyde, Glasgow Caledonian and Glasgow Universities) which is investigating innovative approaches to formative assessment practices.

For further news items, features, projects and presentations on the work of JISC in e-assessment, including JISC services and projects, please see the e-Learning Focus website.

JISC is working in partnership with Becta on providing advice and guidance for institutions on effective use of e-assessment.
