The aim of the Improving Course Information (ICI) Project is to help drive up the quality, efficiency and effectiveness of the collection, presentation, and sharing of course information. Through the adoption of the XCRI-CAP standard, the college aims to accelerate the process that was started in the past 12 months with the introduction of an internal course database; Course Catalogue. As part of phase one, a self-assessment of the current position has identified that whilst the development of Course Catalogue has included many of the data classes required for XCRI-CAP, there are some notable omissions. The project will address this and develop new processes to ensure data quality and improve ease of exchange. ICI will create a structure around data collection that will improve the quality of course information, and will lead to an ability to meet increasing customer expectations. It will also serve to reduce the time burden involved with sharing course information with aggregator organisations through the development of a single XML-based catalogue. For example course data is currently manually cut and pasted from the Course Catalogue onto the UCAS site, the SFA National Course Database and others. Cornwall College recognises the changing demand for customer engagement. With 60% of enquiries now originating from the college’s website, it is essential to ensure that course information is accessible, informative, and accurate. ICI will contribute to the college’s transition from a traditional prospectus to an online-only prospectus. We believe the whole student experience is enhanced by timely and accurate course information which is presented and accessible to enable informed choices about where, when and how to study. ICI will help to develop our Course Catalogue to meet the changing demand for course provision. Specifically, the College has seen a significant increase in its short FE and HE course provision with 2250 courses currently on offer. This growth has challenged the capability of Course Catalogue to allow rapid creation and deployment of course information, along with a growing difficulty in ensuring such offerings are shared with external stakeholders in a timely fashion. Objectives • Allow learners to make better choices by providing accurate and timely information about our courses enabling searching based on intended career or outcome. • Produce an XCRI-CAP data feed to enable external agencies to maintain accurate information about Cornwall College courses. • Identify ownership and facilitate the production of quality course information. • Deliver a college web-based course finder that fully utilises the course information. Anticipated Outputs and Outcomes • Cornwall College Course Finder. • UNITe to XCRI-CAP Generator. • Course Management Process Documentation • Cornwall College XCRI-CAP Data Map • Interim Report 1 • Interim Report 2 • Project Final Report • Completion Report • Project Blog and Wiki • Customisations to UNIT-e Columbus to capture additional course information. • A course catalogue fully populated with course information. • Cornwall College XCRI-CAP feeds via COOL URIs • Cornwall College Course Information Templates • KPIs on Course Information status • Dissemination of Project at Capita Annual Conference. • Evaluation Report
