City College Norwich (CCN) will develop the systems, processes and core data to fully implement the XCRI-CAP standard and to apply this standard to all course information across the breadth of its provision. Further, CCN will develop a single source repository for all of its courses’ data and will use this single source to populate all on and offline course marketing materials, and to make all data freely available to third-party users for repatriation and dissemination.

Course Data Stage 2 City College Norwich: XCRI CCN

City College Norwich (CCN) will develop the systems, processes and core data to fully implement the XCRI-CAP standard and to apply this standard to all course information across the breadth of its provision. Further, CCN will develop a single source repository for all of its courses’ data and will use this single source to populate all on and offline course marketing materials, and to make all data freely available to third-party users for repatriation and dissemination.

CCN aims to provide the widest range of choices and opportunities for its future, potential users. However, it also recognises that the choices in the marketplace can be overwhelming and that good quality, consistent and structured information must be made available to ensure that fully informed decisions around course choice can be made. CCN believes that supplying this information in this manner will have direct and significant impact on rates of student satisfaction, retention and achievement.

CCN also recognises that the routes by which potential students discover their course marketing information are becoming more varied and increasingly are accessed online. Developing internal systems and processes to match a national standard and making that data openly accessible to all third parties will ensure consistency of information to the end-user. It will also allow both the institution itself and third-party data users to make extended use of the data e.g. mapping course progression routes internally and across multiple institutions; mapping course routes to careers; making courses internally and across institutions more easy to compare etc.

Courses are the products that all educational institutions deliver. To deliver them effectively the institution must have a deep understanding of the content of these courses. Through the process of creating and adhering to the XCRI-CAP standard, CCN will use the opportunity to review and assess the suitability of its products for the local community and use this insight to address shortcomings or gaps in its provision.
