PHE annual TB update 2014
World TB Day on 24 March commemorates the discovery of the causative agent of tuberculosis (TB) by Robert Koch in 1882 and aims to raise global public awareness of TB. The Stop TB Partnerships theme for this year’s World TB Day campaign is: “Reach the three million. A TB test, treatment and cure for all.”

Tuberculosis in London: annual review (2012 data)
In 2012, 3426 TB cases were reported among London residents, a rate of 41 per 100,000 population. After 2 decades of increase, TB rates in London have stabilised, but account for 39% of notified cases across the UK.

TB awareness activities conducted among TB clinics across the UK 2009
National Knowledge Service – TB conducted a survey on awareness among TB clinic staff about the training needs of their local primary care colleagues. The survey among TB nurses nationally aimed to get a better understanding of current awareness activities provided by TB staff to General Practitioners. This survey was developed, circulated and the data collected were analyzed and reported.

Rates of tuberculosis continue to increase in many parts of the country.
Case numbers are at their highest for nearly thirty years and now exceed 9,000 per year. Much of this rise affects disadvantaged communities including certain ethnic minority groups and those with social risk factors such as homelessness and drug/alcohol misuse.

Tuberculosis (TB): guidance for staff working with people seeking asylum
Asylum seekers often arrive in the UK from countries in which the incidence of TB is high. Also, they may have been exposed to TB in overcrowded living conditions. They represent a vulnerable group for TB, so staff working in Induction Centres and dispersed accommodation must be aware of tuberculosis, its recognition and treatment services.
