Natural England - Moor House-Upper Teesdale: activities

Moor House-Upper Teesdale: activities

Every year the reserve runs a full events programme which includes guided walks and activities for all – this is often the best way to see the NNR’s special features without disturbing wildlife or damaging fragile plants.

Why not join us to view the rare Black Grouse lek, make sense of the areas fascinating geology, or hunt for the famous spring gentian, with an expert on hand to help explain what you see?

Check the events page for details of all upcoming events in the North East this year.

Schools and groups

The reserve offers a range of days that can be tailor made for both primary and secondary schools and link in to the school curriculum.

The day can cover subjects such as science, geography, literacy art and music, and some practical conservation work can be offered at certain times of year.

Visits from higher education establishments are also welcome, as are those from groups such as Duke of Edinburgh, Scouts, Guides and youth clubs.

Please contact the Outreach Advisor on 01833 622374 for more details. See the page on schools and community groups.

Out and about with Green Guides

Green Guide volunteers are on the Reserve during the spring and summer, especially on the nature trail at Cow Green. They are there to answer questions about the Reserve, offer advice and show people features of particular importance. They will be recognisable by their yellow/green waistcoats and badges. Please do stop and have a chat to them.

Book a Green Guide

If you would like to bring a group to the Reserve and need a guide to help you get the most out of the visit, why not book a Green Guide?

Green Guides are trained Natural England volunteers who have an interest in the Reserve and surrounding area. You can book a guide for an hour, an afternoon or a whole day depending on your group’s needs and the availability of the guides.

The service is free but we do need at least one week’s notice to arrange it.

For more information please ring the Reserve office on 01833 622374.
