As the Muslim holy month of Ramadan approaches, Tunisians are planning to change their daily routines to observe the fast, and to re-orientate their thoughts to give pride of place to matters spiritual and to family togetherness.

Business and professional life will of course go on, albeit at a more gentle pace. And political life will no doubt go on too as the country heads towards an election in October which will, we all hope, mark a truly irreversible step in the country’ political transition.

With Ramadan coinciding with August this year, I encourage British holidaymakers to follow the advice we have set out on how to be respectful of the traditions and beliefs of their hosts. This is always important but even more so during the holy month.

I wish all Muslim readers a Ramadan Karim.
