Video: Friends of Syria – Alistair Burts talks about UK objectives at the meeting in Tunisia

Speaking in Tunis after attending the “Friends of Syria” meeting on 25 February, Mr Burt outlined the objectives for the meeting and the leading role the UK is playing in supporting the freedom of the Syrian people.

This meeting was the latest move by the international community to back the Arab League’s plan for a Syrian-led solution to the crisis, following the United Nations General Assembly Resolution on 16 February.

He said: “We want an end to the violence in Syria so the political process proposed by the Arab League can commence. We shall not let up on this. We know that this work may take some time but every effort will be made diplomatically, politically and economically to make clear to the regime that killing its own people cannot go on.”

Dear Mr. Alistair Burts, congratulations to your speech in Tunis in February. It looks to me that you are one of the few
politicians that are able to find the correct/necessary words to speak out loud and clear exactly those things which are urgently needed to be said. And this in a way which also “normal-average” people on the streets can easy understand.
I hope that you will continue to do this kind of politics in the future too. With my best regards and respect, Ingo-Steven Wais, Stuttgart
