South West

The 2013 Review of Parliamentary constituency boundaries will introduce substantial changes. It will reduce the number of constituencies in England from 533 to 502 and make sure that each constituency has a similar number of registered electors. Read more about the Review

What’s changing in the South West?

We have revised 29 of the 53 constituencies we proposed in September 2011. After careful consideration, we have decided not to make any revisions to the boundaries of the remaining 24 constituencies. In some instances, however, we have revised our proposed names for these constituencies.

Under our revised proposals, 13 constituencies in the South West would remain the same as they are under the existing arrangements.

We have revised our initial proposals for Gloucester and the Forest of Dean. We are now proposing to split the Westgate ward (in the City of Gloucester) and the Coombe Hill ward (in the Borough of Tewkesbury) between constituencies, in order to avoid breaking local ties in Gloucester.

We are proposing a slight revision of the cross-county boundary constituencies in both the Cornwall and Devon, and Dorset and Wiltshire sub-regions, but have not revised the locations at which the county boundaries are crossed.

We have revised our proposals for the Cornwall and Devon sub-region, including a reconfiguration of the two mid-Cornwall constituencies, and revisions to the proposals for Plymouth, and south and central Devon.

We have revised our proposals for the Dorset and Wiltshire sub-region, including revisions to the constituencies in and around Poole and Bournemouth, and throughout Wiltshire.

We have revised many of our proposed constituencies throughout the Somerset, Bath and North East Somerset, and South Gloucestershire sub-region, particularly with regard to constituencies in and around the towns of Wells, Glastonbury, Frome, Kingswood, and Keynsham.
