North East

The 2013 Review of Parliamentary constituency boundaries will introduce substantial changes. It will reduce the number of constituencies in England from 533 to 502 and make sure that each constituency has a similar number of registered electors. Read moreabout the Review.

What is changing in the North East?

We have revised 22 of the 26 constituencies we proposed in September 2011 and have decided to make no change to the boundaries of the remaining four constituencies, although, in some cases, we have revised our proposed names for constituencies.

We have proposed one constituency that would remain the same as the existing constituency.

We have made substantial revisions to our proposals for constituencies to the north of the River Tyne, which we consider better reflects the existing arrangement of constituencies, and, as in our initial proposals, we do not recommend a constituency within Tyne and Wear that crosses the River Tyne.

We have not revised our initial proposals for three of the constituencies in Tyne and Wear which are south of the River Tyne and have proposed a revision to the name of the proposed Jarrow and Gateshead East constituency.

We have revised our proposals in the north of County Durham and propose a North West Durham constituency which does not cross the county boundary between County Durham and Northumberland
