MTL funding update: July 2011

Following the publication of the schools white paper, The Importance of Teaching, in November 2010, the Secretary of State for Education, Michael Gove, announced that, in future, there would be no central Government funding for postgraduate study programmes, including MTL. Therefore, only teachers already studying for the MTL are now being funded to complete the programme.

The white paper highlights the Government's belief that the quality of teachers and professional development are of the utmost importance. It sets out the commitment to developing a strong culture of professional development where more teachers acquire postgraduate qualifications, but that teachers should decide for themselves which masters level course is the right one for them.
