On 22 August 2013, applicants to the third round of the National Scholarship Fund for Teachers, and the second round of the National Scholarship Fund for special educational needs (SEN) support staff, were notified of their result.
The application window opened on 08 April 2013 and closed on 29 April 2013. The National College for Teaching and Leadership received 984 applications for a wide variety of activities including a Postgraduate Certificate in Astronomy and Astrophysics, an MSc in Medical Molecular Biology and a M.Ed. in Severe and Profound Learning Difficulties.
The fund is limited in size and applications were highly competitive, as is the nature of such prestigious awards.
A stringent assessment process was applied to ensure that scholarships were awarded to the most intellectually challenging and rigorous applications with the clearest focus on priority subjects (English, mathematics and science) or SEN. The final stage in the process was ratification by an expert panel of eminent educationalists, which provided an extra layer of quality assurance by validating the processes and ensuring consistency and fairness.
