Sexual Health Programme

The Government’s National Strategy for Sexual Health and HIV aims to reduce the spread of STIs through more rapid detection and treatment. To support this, the Agency is helping to improve diagnostic, treatment and prevention services, and identifying areas for action. In particular, we are helping to increase chlamydia screening and reduce the levels of undiagnosed HIV infection among men who have sex with men.

Programme Aim

To develop a coordinated and strategic approach across the HPA to the diagnosis, surveillance and prevention of HIV and Sexually Transmitted Infections, working in partnership with key national and international stakeholders.

Sexual Health Programme Board

The Board is drawn from across the Agency with national, regional and local representatives. It is supported by a network of Regional Sexual Health Leads.

Programme key activity areas are identified in the business plan. A selection of these activities are described in greater detail below.
