The changes being made to the health and care system are designed to put patients at the centre of decision-making, empower clinical commissioners to lead in improving NHS patients in England will soon have more choice and control over where they are treated, what treatment they receive and who treats them. GPs and other healthcare professionals will also be able to decide the best ways to meet care needs in their community.

Every patient should be sure they will get high quality care in the way they need it when they need it. As sector regulator for the NHS, Monitor will be the public body that regulates organisations providing NHS care in order to protect patients’ interests. The Department of Health and Monitor are now working on proposals relating to the implementation of this process.

We’ll be publishing a number of proposals here between August and October 2012.
