A series of documents and materials has been produced to help the suppliers of school management information systems (MIS) and local authority (LA) HR/payroll systems develop their systems to support the storage and extraction of the data required for the School Workforce Census.

This includes the following:

  • 2013 annual School Workforce Census business and technical specification. This document details the technical requirements for those data items that need to be extracted from school MIS and LA HR/payroll systems for the 2013 School Workforce Census, and consists of this specification and the associated CBDS items.
  • XSLT validation files for the School Workforce Census 2013.
  • School Summary XSLT. This contains version 1.0 of the school summary report XSLT files for 2013.
  • 2013 school summary technical specification – where the School Workforce Census return is generated from a MIS, the school summary should be generated automatically by MIS software. It fulfils a number of purposes:
    • Allows school staff preparing the return to check its accuracy and completeness before passing it to the headteacher.
    • Where the summary is forwarded to the LA, it enables the LA to check the return from the school.
  • 2012 annual School Workforce Census business and technical specification – this document details the technical requirements for those data items that need to be extracted from school MIS and LA HR/payroll systems for the 2012 School Workforce Census, and consists of this specification and the associated CBDS items.
  • School Summary XSLT. This contains version 1.1 of the school summary report XSLT files for 2012.
  • School summary technical specification – where the School Workforce Census return is generated from a MIS, the school summary should be generated automatically by MIS software. It fulfils a number of purposes:
    • Allows school staff preparing the return to check its accuracy and completeness before passing it to the headteacher.
    • Where the summary is forwarded to the LA, it enables the LA to check the return from the school.
