The Early Years Foundation Stage Profile (EYFSP) is a statutory assessment for children at the end of the Foundation Stage and is a way of summing up each child's development and learning at the end of the Reception year. All EYFS providers must report EYFS profile data (the ‘score’ against the 17 ELGs) together with the appropriate identifying data, to their local authority (LA) for each child, upon request.

The narrative on how a child demonstrates the three characteristics of effective learning should not be submitted.  The results inform our understanding of the number of children achieving a good level of development and the extent of the achievement inequality at local-area level. They also inform Key Stage 1 (KS1) teachers of their pupils’ level of development on entering Year 1 and inform parents about their child’s development.

LAs are required to collect and report to the Department the results for all children at the end of the Foundation Stage in their maintained schools and nurseries. The results for children in private, voluntary and independent (PVI) providers are only required to be reported to the Department (via the LA) where the child is still in receipt of Government funding at the end of the foundation stage.
