TPP SystmOne accredited for GP2GP record transfer project

TPP SystmOne has now being fully accredited by NHS Connecting for Health to send and receive patient records electronically as part of the GP2GP record transfer project. (Published: 22 January 2013)

The GP2GP programme team has worked with TPP and nine sites in Derbyshire and, following a successful pilot, will extend the functionality to an initial 100 sites before implementing it for all users.

GP2GP functionality enables electronic patient records to be sent quickly and securely between GP practices and delivers numerous benefits to practice staff, clinicians and patients.

It enables clinicians to maintain continuity of care for newly-registered patients, improving clinical safety and saving time for administrative staff.

When a patient is registered at a new practice, GP2GP will automatically retrieve the full electronic health record of the newly-registering patient from the patient's previous practice. It will then be transferred to the new practice, usually within a matter of minutes.

Jill Hepworth, programme manager, said: "The TPP full roll-out approval will enable thousands more GP practices to now seamlessly transfer records.

"Working closely with NHS Derbyshire County, who ran the first of type pilot for the TPP SystmOne product, we were able to see at first hand the benefits the system will bring and iron out any issues prior to wider roll-out."

The functionality will be rolled out to TPP SystmOne practices in the coming months, giving a real boost to the GP2GP programme.

The team also has another GP system going through assurance testing and are working to increase system utilisation in practices that have the functionality already.

With over 1,900 practices currently using TPP SystmOne, this approval increases the total potential coverage of GP2GP from 57% to over 85% of GP practices across England.
