It is more effective to invest early, to prevent problems developing and save later costs. We are giving local authorities more freedom to decide how best to do this by pooling the money available for early intervention and preventative services into a new Early Intervention Grant (EIG). This new streamlined grant will give leaders and managers greater flexibility to target grants on local needs; to take a whole-family approach; and to use the money to encourage diversity of provision and establish payment by results.
Further information on the details of funding within the EIG will be available in due course.
