People with flu-like illness
Estimates suggest that flu-like activity – that is, the number of people with flu-like symptoms seeing their GP – is currently low. For week 4 (ending 27 January, 2013), the weekly primary care consultation rate for flu-like illness in England was 11.1 per 100,000.
The provisional vaccination uptake rates show the following position at week ending 27 January.
- 73.2% of people aged 65 or over have had the flu jab.
- 50.8% of patients under 65 in clinical risk groups have had the flu jab.
- 39.7% of pregnant women have had the flu jab.
Admissions to intensive care units
In week 4, there were 38 new flu-related admissions to intensive care units (ICUs) reported across the UK. There was one death from confirmed influenza in ICUs reported in week 4.
