People with flu-like illness
Estimates suggest that flu-like activity – that is, the number of people with flu-like symptoms seeing their GP – is currently low. For week 8 (ending 24 February), the weekly primary care consultation rate for flu-like illness in England was 15.3 per 100,000.
Admissions to intensive care units
In week 8, there were 37 new flu-related admissions to intensive care units (ICUs) reported across the UK. There were five deaths from confirmed influenza in ICUs reported in week 8.
The provisional vaccination uptake rate for frontline healthcare workers as at the end of January was 45.9%.
More detailed information on flu-like activity can be found in the Health Protection Agency’s (HPA’s) weekly National Influenza Report.
