Consultation launched on fertility and human tissue regulators

Proposals to change responsibility for regulating fertility treatment and human tissue were set out on 28 June 2012, with the launch of a consultation on the future of the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority (HFEA) and the Human Tissue Authority (HTA).

The UK-wide consultation will consider whether the regulators’ responsibilities should move to the Care Quality Commission (CQC) and the Health Research Authority.

The consultation runs until 28 September 2012. Any person, business or organisation with an interest is encouraged to respond.
