The tenth set of quarterly statistics on Venous Thromboembolism (VTE) Risk Assessment in England, produced by the Department of Health have been published according to the arrangements approved by the UK Statistics Authority.

The key results for data collected on the number and proportion of VTE Risk Assessments carried out on adult admissions to NHS funded acute care are as follows:

Of the 3.4m adult patients admitted to NHS funded acute care between October and December 2012, 94.2% of these received a VTE risk assessment on admission, a slight increase compared to Q2 2012-13 (93.9%).

In Q3 2012-13, the proportion of admissions receiving a VTE risk assessment was slightly lower for NHS acute providers (94%) than Independent Sector providers (98%), although NHS acute providers carried out around 97% of all VTE risk assessments.
At SHA level, performance varied from 92.7% in North East to 97.2% in East of England during Q3.
There has been a steady increase in the proportion of providers of NHS funded acute care, from 47% in July 2010 to 94% in December 2012.

The ninth set of quarterly statistics on Venous Thromboembolism (VTE) Risk Assessment in England, produced by the Department of Health have been published according to the arrangements approved by the UK Statistics Authority.

The key results for data collected on the number and proportion of VTE Risk Assessments carried out on adult admissions to NHS funded acute care are as follows:

Of the 3.4m adult patients admitted to NHS funded acute care between July and September 2012, as reported in this data collection, 93.9% of these received a VTE risk assessment on admission, a slight increase compared to Q1 2012-13 (93.4%).

In Q2 2012-13, the proportion of admissions receiving a VTE risk assessment was slightly lower for NHS acute providers (94%) than Independent Sector providers (98%), although NHS acute providers carried out around 98% of all VTE risk assessments.

At SHA level, performance varied from 92.5% in South West to 96.8% in East of England during Quarter 2. All the SHAs achieved the 90% compliance for Q2.

In September 2012, 293 providers (out of 311 providers who submitted data) reported that at least 90% of adult admissions were risk assessed for VTE, compared to 275 in June 2012, 241 in March 2012, and 18 in July 2010.

The key results for data collected on the number and proportion of VTE Risk Assessments carried out on adult admissions to NHS funded acute care are as follows:

Of the 3.3m adult patients admitted to NHS funded acute care between January and March 2012, as reported in this data collection, 93.4% of these received a VTE risk assessment on admission, a slight increase compared to Q4 2011-12 (92.5%).
In Q1 2012-13, the proportion of admissions receiving a VTE risk assessment was slightly lower for NHS acute providers (93%) than Independent Sector providers (96%), although NHS acute providers carried out around 98% of all VTE risk assessments.
At SHA level, performance varied from 91.5% in South Central to 96.6% in East of England during Quarter 1. All the SHAs achieved the 90% compliance for Q1.

In June 2012, 275 providers (out of 309 providers who submitted data) reported that at least 90% of adult admissions were risk assessed for VTE, compared to 241 in March 2012, 221 in December 2011, and 18 in July 2010.

The key results for data collected on the number and proportion of VTE Risk Assessments carried out on adult admissions to NHS funded acute care are as follows:

Of the 3.4m adult patients admitted to NHS funded acute care between January and March 2012, as reported in this data collection, 93% of these received a VTE risk assessment on admission, an increase compared to Q3 2011-12 (91%).

In Q4 2011-12, the proportion of admissions receiving a VTE risk assessment was slightly lower for NHS acute providers (93%) than Independent Sector providers (95%), although NHS acute providers carried out around 98% of all VTE risk assessments.

At SHA level, performance varied from 88.9% in London to 96.4% in East of England during Quarter 4. Only one SHA did not reach 90% compliance for Q4 (London – 88.9%).

In March 2012, 241 providers (out of 274 providers who submitted data) reported that at least 90% of adult admissions were risk assessed for VTE, compared to 221 in December 2011, and 18 in July 2010.

Of the 3.3m adult patients admitted to NHS funded acute care between October and December 2011, as reported in this data collection, 91% of these received a VTE risk assessment on admission, an increase compared to Q2 2011-12 (88%).

In December 2011, 221 providers (out of 271 providers who submitted data), reported that at least 90% of adult admissions were risk assessed for VTE, compared to 209 in September 2011, and 18 in July 2010.
