This publication is the government response to the consultation on a set of draft regulations that proposed changes to the NHS Pension Scheme for England & Wales. A total of 3,198 responses were received. The vast majority of respondents were individuals working within the NHS as general practitioners, hospital doctors or consultants.

The department is consulting on a draft of The National Health Service Pension Scheme, Additional Voluntary Contributions and Injury Benefits (Amendment) Regulations 2013.

A copy of the draft regulations and details of how to respond to the consultation are available on the NHS Business Services Authority website.

An impact assessment and equality analysis have been prepared in relation to the proposed increases in member contribution rates from 1 April 2013. These increases are part of the government’s intention to raise employee contributions in phases over the three years from 2012-13 to 2014-15. The proposed contribution rates for 2013-14 have been shared with NHS trade unions.
