The focus of this report is the Capital Cost of sprinkler installations (including trade off costs) to new build schools. However, consideration has also been given to running costs and insurance premium reductions.

It should be recognised that any decision to install a sprinkler system should not be made on a cost basis alone as there are other factors involved including functional flexibility of design, issues related to the disruption caused by fire in terms of education, equipment, loss of facilities and the implementation and maintenance of management procedures such as risk assessments and fire management for the operation of the building.
