This table provides a time series of the full-time equivalent number of regular teachers in service in the maintained sector in England in each year since 1979 from the DfES annual survey of teachers in service and teacher vacancies, 618g, the department's standard source of this information. The number of occasional and total teachers are also included as are overall pupil teacher ratios, (PTR) and the full-time equivalent number of teachers in service in England and Wales.
