This time series shows the number of initial teacher training(ITT) places allocated for primary and secondary courses (broken down by subject specialism for secondary) from 1990/91 to 20012/13. The places up to and including 2007/08 are for postgraduate and undergraduate ITT at universities and other higher education institutions and for school centred initial teacher training (SCITT), but exclude employment-based routes to ITT (EBITT). Places for 2008/09 onwards include EBITT but exclude Teach First.
This table replicates a time series originally published as part of additional tables to the Department for Education: School workforce in England statistical first release, but retains a longer historical time series. The statistical first release remains the lead publication in this area and should be considered the definitive source for the latest figures.
