This Statistical First Release provides a time series of the proportion of pupils making expected progress in English and in mathematics between Key Stage 2 and Key Stage 4.
These measures replace National Indicator 97 (Progression by 2 levels in English between Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4) and National Indicator 98 (Progression by 2 levels in mathematics between Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4) which are usually included as additional tables in the GCSE and Equivalent Results (Revised) SFR.
In October 2008, the Secretary of State announced significant changes to the school assessment and accountability system, including the end of compulsory Key Stage 3 tests. This has led to a revision of the National Indicators methodology and the development of these new indicators.
