This is a new Statistical First Release that provides early indications of overall absence and persistent absence levels for primary and secondary schools in England in school year 2006/2007 (based on combined autumn 2006 and spring 2007 School Census data). Last year, absence information based on combined termly data were not released until February so this is an improvement of four months.
Further analysis, also including absence in the first half of summer term, will be published in February 2008 along with more detailed analysis of absence by pupil characteristics.
