Please note: an error has been identified in Tables 4a-d of SFR21/2006 published on 8 June 2006. Tables 4a-d and Figure 2 have been revised to correct an error in the proportions of young people participating in full-time education with a highest qualification aim of NVQ level 3 or equivalent by institution type. The total participating with a highest qualification aim of NVQ level 3 or equivalent was correct (row 37) but the components by institution type (rows 38-39) were incorrect due to an error in the spreadsheet calculation. No other figures are affected. An example of the correction can be found in the excel spreadsheet attached under additional information.

This is an update of Statistical First Release 27/2005 released in June 2005 and subsequently revised in December 2005. Publication date has been improved by 3 weeks.

The SFR provides information on the percentages of 16, 17 and 18 year olds (both separate age groups and the whole group combined) in education and training and those who are not in education, employment or training (NEET) for 2004 (revising provisional figures released in 2005) and 2005 (provisional). Key analyses are by age, gender, type of learning, institution (FE college, schools, etc), labour market status, highest qualification being studied. There are additional tables showing trends over a longer time period. The SFR draws together information from the different post-16 learning options (school, FE colleges, work-based learning, Higher Education, etc) to give a coherent and comprehensive picture of the participation of 16-18 year olds.
