This new edition of "Statistics of Education - Schools in England" describes school data for the academic year 2002/2003, collected in January 2003. This is the latest in a series of volumes produced annually and its value is as the main source of education statistics for England as a whole, allowing comparisons to be made over time. This volume will introduce new analyses made available with pupil level data. The additional tables will include the number of pupils by ethnicity, gender, and free school meal eligiblity; the number of pupils with special educational needs by ethnicity and the number of pupils by their first language and ethnicity. Additional LEA level tables will be made available shortly after publication of the volume.
