In last year's White Paper, the Government announced its intention to ensure that all children in alternative provision - not just those permanently excluded from school - should receive full-time education unless their medical needs made this inappropriate. The Department has now made an Order to bring into force the provisions in section 3 of the Children, Schools and Families Act 2010. These provisions will come into force on 1 September 2011 as indicated in the White Paper. Local authorities will be expected to comply with this duty from that date.
