Cascade to: Local authority chief finance officers and school transport teams
We recently notified local authorities of the intention to continue to fund extended rights to free travel and the general duty to promote sustainable travel. For 2011-12 and 2012-13 we have made available £38.049 and £47.206 million respectively, paid via the Local Services Support Grant (LSSG) under Section 31 of the Local Government Act 2003.
As non-ring-fenced funding, there are no terms and conditions attached to its payment and local authorities have the freedom to use it to meet their locally identified priorities. The statutory duties in respect of home to school transport will remain in place for this period. Payments will be administered by DCLG in line with the arrangements previously announced for the LSSG.
