On 28 March 2011 the Government announced a new £180 million bursary scheme to help the most vulnerable 16- to 19 year-olds continue in full-time education.
The scheme will start in September 2011. The money will be distributed directly to recipients by schools, colleges and training organisations. The Government also announced proposed transitional arrangements to help some of those who are presently in receipt of Education Maintenance Allowance.
A consultation on the new scheme has been launched and will close on 20 May 2011 so that the detailed arrangements can be finalised in time for allocations to be made to learning providers for the 2011/12 academic year.
Further information on the proposals, together with the consultation and response documents can be found on the consultations section of this website.
Please respond to the consultation by 20 May 2011.
